It Be That Way Sometimes

Some days it feels as if everything is just at odds. Like you just can't even. Some days no mater what we seem to try we cant seem to feel right. It’s the type of feeling when you know what you're supposed to be doing but you cant figure out why you cant do it. It’s the cognitive dissonance that appears when we are confronted with thing we should be doing, the person we should be becoming, or the dreams we should be pursuing and its just not happening. It’s the Daniel Caesar and double fudge kinda day. It’s the 2K and phone-on-silent type of day. It’s the 5 hour self-care nap type of day.

It’s the feeling that a “Aye bruh, it be that way sometimes”, isn’t going to fix. But the truth is that breakthrough comes with perspective change. So lets change our perspective.
1. See what you're looking at
The first step towards a solution is recognizing there is a problem. But the step that changes perspective comes with realizing that the problem has a purpose. Each and every day, we have an opportunity to learn something we haven’t learned before. That means that even the “bad” days have a purpose. Every second of life is a lesson.
The ability to detect when you are acting contrary to your character is predicated on an innate self knowledge. Our society is obsessed with the idea of “finding your place." It is a constant pressure to find where you can fit in, which groups you identify with. But I seek not to find my place, but to find myself. If I gain the perfect job, the perfect wife, the perfect life but I have no sense of my identity I’ve missed the point. Don’t forsake the greater things for the expected things. It seems ludicrous to assume that when you “have it all” all the tough days will stop. To me that suggests a deeper source and a deeper solution. What benefit is it to gain the world but lose my soul?
So many of us, seek to build up positions, wealth, and happiness without realizing that anything built without a foundation will fall. Having a concrete, innate, knowledge of yourself and your history is the key to unlock success in the rest of your life. Money fades away. Beauty disappears. Relationships don’t last. Yet society urges us to choose to build on these things that can crumble to dust at any moment. Is it any wonder we feel lost?
I choose to find a firm foundation in a knowledge that cannot be taken away from me. Know yourself. Know your history. This way you can identify days in which you're acting outside of your character. Most importantly, actively seek the lesson in the middle of the lions den.
2. See where you're going
Someone said that if you're going through hell, why would you want to stay there! You were not meant to live in a constant struggle and trial! However, many of us get so comfortable in that place of lethargy that we make it a constant in our lives. British artist 21 Savage echoed that sentiment saying, “if you make your bed, you gon’ lay there.” Essentially, where you slow down is where you're gonna stop. Remember that your life has direction!

You have a purpose and a trajectory. You were not meant for the mundane but for the extraordinary. Hidden in the destiny of every soul is an urge towards greatness. Sometimes we just have to remind ourselves that we are predestined for glory.
Forgetting our direction is often so easy because life is a breeze when you're aimless. Forgetting your direction will allow you to settle for less than you were made for. You're living your life like an eagle walking along the ground. No matter how fast that eagle walks its not living up to its potential because it was born to fly. You are meant to fly. Not to just wander but to press onward to the promised destination. When I find myself forgetting my destination I turn to Ephesians 3 and especially verse 19. It says “…and to know that this love surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” It reminds me that there is a God who loves me more than I can even understand (even on my bad days). It spells out the destination for life – that a life lived to the utmost is a life that is saturated with the fullness of God. How comforting to know that the God if the universe has our destiny in His hands and that He chose to give us a relationship full of love and abundance.
You are meant to go in a direction that leads to a full life governed by love. Nothing can change that, not even days when you're in your feelings. Lean into that promise. Lean into the lesson that each day can bring and never forget that you have a direction and a destination. And it's going to be greater than you can imagine!
